It reeks of teenage prestige and self-importance. They have sex constantly and she’s constantly manipulating him. It was odd though, that the author never mentioned the names of the two of them.

The novel is written as a letter to her lover after things have broken down and in it she confesses everything — how she exploited his desire, how she never really felt much herself, it was the power of the hold she had over him.

I think the sex scenes really make the meat of the book, since the most character development happens within them. At 16, orphaned, insecure and battling with her demons and obsessions, she sought solace in her sketches, but they were in turn detrimental. While 16 year old girls aren’t quite my cup of tea, I do have an interest in the darker sides of sexuality. Feb 02, cyb0rgirl rated it it was ok. The subject matter of the book will make some people squirm. The book is written in the form of a letter that the girl is writing to her ex-lover to explain her side of things. That was kinda interesting I suppose, but then I started getting really freaked out when I could sympathise with her. I read this book a few years ago and I still have mixed feelings coite it, but I decided I liked the style in which it was written.

Lists with This Book. The characters annoyed me and the plot was non-existent. Her brazen honesty is shocking through the book and cathh times I haven’t read such a thought provoking book in really long time.

I saw the gentle bookish boy you must have been, made old with tedium, wasted effort, unacknowledged kindnesses. There is a particular passage this is just one of many examples where I actually found innlcents writing to be quite good where she likens the handwriting in the the notes that her departed lover is leaving her at the house after the butt sex incident to the times they were together, as the shapes of the letters in the alphabet remind her of intimacies and memories.
